before I forget

Synapsid vertebrates originated at the end of the Paleozoic era and diversified during Carboniferous and early Permian periods. They were the top carnivores before the Diapsids. Synapsids flourished during mid Permian period of Paleozoic era to late Triassic period of Mesozoic era. The herbivores were large bodies and slow while the carnivores were small bodied and agile.By the end of Triassic period most died out and only small sized forms survived. This was during the Permian Triassic extinction event. It is said that the mammals today evolved from these surviving tetrapods.

Diapsid reptiles who became dominant and radiated during Jurassic and Cretaceous are of two main groups.
Dinosaurs and related groups - Archosauria
Marine reptiles and lizards - Lepidosauria
