History of Environment Science _ 1962

1962 - Silent Spring - Rachel Carson

The use of DDT without control as a pesticide made a huge impact on the environment and health of human beings. DDT was first used as a pesticide in 1939 and was used in great quantity against insects causing various diseases. But unlike many pesticides DDT do not selectively kill one species or family, it kills a huge range of insects.

The research on toxicology (study of effects of chemicals on living organisms) , Ecology ( study of the relationship and interaction between living organisms and their surroundings), and epidemiology ( study of pattern of health and illness and associated factors in population level) in the book suggests how the use of agricultural pesticides have effected the living organisms and also human health.
